Car Accident Leaves Woman in a Coma

A car accident early on November 5 has left a woman in a coma in Cupertino. Suvan Gerlach, 56, was on the way to the store to most likely get some snacks for a meeting when her white 2009 Prius was struck by another car. At this time the driver of the other car, a woman, has not been identified or arrested, nor was she hurt in the accident.

The crash is still under investigation by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Sergeant Rick Sung of the Sheriff's Office stated that his team is looking into whether the other car ran a red light that morning.

Gerlach is currently in a coma at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. In addition to a ruptured spleen and shattered bones, the doctors believe that, should she awake, Gerlach will suffer from permanent brain damage.
