Dangerous Boat Accident Reported to L.A. Parks Bureau
In the state of California, it is illegal to drive a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. The same holds true for operating a boat. One man learned about the law the hard way last weekend when he reportedly caused a fatal boat accident.
According to the Parks Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a call was dispatched to officers at Pyramid Lake regarding a capsized ski boat. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found that all of the passengers had been thrown from the boat, two of which were treading water without life jackets. They were then informed that two dogs were also on the boat, only one of which they were able to rescue. The other had become trapped under the boat and, unfortunately, lost its life.
The two men were transported to an area hospital, but not before the operator of the boat was questioned by the police. He immediately showed signs of intoxication, prompting officers to charge him with boating under the influence.
