Understanding the Meaning of Premises Liability

If you have recently been injured on someone's property, you might need to familiarize yourself with the term 'premises liability.'

This refers to injuries that happen due to unsafe conditions on property that is not your own. The types of injuries that could be sustained are endless, but they can include instances such as slip and falls, faulty store displays, fires, swimming pool accidents, roof cave-ins and animal attacks. Any type of building or even open-space area can be a place where premises liability stands true.

It is the responsibility of the owner to alert anyone on his/her property of any present or possible dangers. If there is anyone else that works for that property, such as a caretaker or manager, they too can be held responsible if you are injured. The court will generally look at who exercises the right to control the property, and whether this is a single or multi-party claim, will determine premises liability based on the circumstances.
