Women Awarded $31 Million in Boat Accident Case

After being seriously injured on a luxury boat ride, two women have been awarded $31 million for their "catastrophic injuries."

The Butte County jury in charge of their case awarded Niki Bell, 27, and Bethany Wallenberg, 26, a combined $31 million for their pain and suffering. Their legal teams were able to show that a design flaw in the $100,000 boat was responsible for causing multiple injuries, ranging from deep cuts to brain damage. After testing the boat for three months, the team proved that a hole built into the bow of the Mastercraft's X45 could cause any of their models to take on water, which is exactly what happened for Bell and Wallenberg.

One lawyer, Roger Dreyer, added that "the manufacturer never presented a single document to show they even tested this boat before putting it on the market."
