Man Accused of Serious Child Abuse and Injuries

According to Cook County prosecutors Robert Bowns, 36, is responsible for depriving a baby of the ability to ever see or walk again.

Even though Bowens wept before onlookers in bond court last week he was charged with aggravated battery and is currently being held in lieu of $400,000 bail. He is being accused of abusing an 11-month-old boy that was left in his care by a former girlfriend. She claims that her baby was happy and in good condition when she left him at the residence in the 2300 block of West Arthur Avenue on July 15, 2009.

When she came back for him the mother brought him to a neighbor's house because he was not breathing. Shortly after doctors at Swedish Covenant Hospital were able to revive the baby but said that he had suffered severe physical abuse that would live him permanently debilitated.
