Motorcycle Accident Shuts Down PCH

The eastbound lanes on Pacific Coast Highway were shut down for several hours when a motorcycle accident proved to be fatal.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department the accident happened around 9 p.m. when a car leaving Geoffrey's Restaurant turned directly into the path of a motorcyclist heading east. Lt. Dave Thompson could not yet release the identity of the motorcyclist but did say that he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Although the westbound lanes were still open to traffic as investigators worked the motorcycle accident. Thompson called the roadway "a convoluted mess." Investigators believe that unfamiliarity with this roadway was the premier cause of the accident as the driver of the car leaving the restaurant is believed to have been from out of town. The lieutenant added that the driver was tested for alcohol and was cleared of any related charges.
