Drunk Driving Accident Case Comes to a Close

The case involving a DUI car accident between a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deputy and two civilians has finally been closed.

According to court documents, Robert Andrew Moran, 43, was sentenced to six months in jail and three years of informal probation at his trial last year. Now a settlement has been approved as well involving the two victims, Elias Aldana, then 33, and her passenger Savanah Kirifi. Since the accident on June 29, 2008, Aldana has accumulated more than $2.1 million in expenses for multiple injuries, including traumatic brain injury, rib and pelvic fractures, internal injuries that required a splenectomy, a torn left shoulder in addition to other soft tissues injuries.

Although Kirifi suffered only minor injuries from the car accident, she will also receive a portion of the settlement.

Several deputies attempted to help Moran beat the DUI charges; their identifies are currently being withheld.
