Two Hurt as a Result of Bicycle Accident
The next time you park on a street where bicyclists are often seen, double-check to make sure none are headed your way.
Last week a 49-year-old man was cited for causing a bicycle accident that injured a man and his young son. The driver opened his car door at the very moment the bicyclist was next to the vehicle. The man was sent flying off the bicycle along with his 3-year-old son. Luckily neither father nor son sustained serious injuries, although the boy did receive several deep lacerations to his face.
After sending the victims to the hospital, police cited the driver in violation of section 22517 of the vehicle code. This states that vehicle drivers cannot open their doors until they are certain that there will be no danger to the movement of traffic.
