Community Gathers to Mourn Train Accident Victims
Survivors and family members of those lost in a tragic train accident gathered last week to remember and grieve together.
The train accident, which happened three years ago, took the lives of 25 people and injured 130 more. All of this could have been avoided if the operator of the train had not been texting while operating the machinery. As a result of his negligence, his train collided full-force with another freight train, causing irreparable damage.
Even though the tragedy of falls within the same time as 9/11, those who are forever tied to the accident still met to discuss and mourn the massive loss that day. One of those who brought flowers to the memorial was the mother of a victim, a 51-year-old man who was nearly cut in half in the accident. She said her son could face a lifetime of dialysis, a lifetime that doctors say has been shortened as a result of the incident. To make matters worse, his settlement of $7 million is not enough to cover his mounting medical bills, another tragedy in itself.
