University Professor Blamed for Death
A University professor could face five years of jail time if he is found to be guilty of the charges against him. He has been named, along with several regents at the college, in the accidental death of a staff research assistant three years ago.
Police issued an arrest warrant for the professor but his lawyers had it dropped last week in a Los Angeles court. He will still have to go to trial for three counts of willfully violating occupational health and safety standards. While they do recognize that the death of the research assistant was a tragic accident, officials at the school are supporting the professor 100 percent. They state that he followed all of the state and national guidelines for safety and that he should not be held accountable for the death.
