Jeffrey Knight pleaded not guilty to the drunk driving accident in which a mother and child were killed.

Knight has been charged with vehicular manslaughter in the death of Brittany Thomas, 21, and Aiden, her ten-month-old son. A member of the Alcoa police department testified that his blood-alcohol level was 2.5 times the legal limit. A jury in Ventura County has given an award of over $49 million for a lawsuit involving a man that lost his life and a California Highway Patrol officer that is now a quadriplegic.

The lawsuit is against a truck driver that was found to be driving under the influence as well as transporting marijuana. An officer finds himself on the other side of the court room this year as he is charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run crash in Torrance.

Richard William Hatten, 36, was represented by his attorney William Haddon last week who entered a not-guilty plea for his Manhattan Beach police officer client.

He has officially been charged with leaving the scene of the crime, along with two other passengers, where he struck another person. However, he is the only one being charged at this time. Officer Hatten was placed on administrative leave by Manhattan Police Chief Rod Uyeda as the department investigated the crash. The two other officers in the car, Eric Eccles and Kristopher Thompson, are not commenting on the case.

The officer on duty at that time, Jeff Goodrich, did not file a police report on the crash. He later succumbed to cancer.

A ten-car pileup in Los Angeles took the lives of three people and injured several more. The Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County was shut down for ten hours as a result of the massive accident that is believed to have been caused by a Ford Taurus driving too fast.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Julia Allen, was killed on the scene. Investigators determined that her Taurus went airborne, flying into the opposite lane and hitting a white Ford Taurus, a Toyota Prius and a Toyota Tacoma pickup. A chain-reaction crash that shut down a busy intersection in West Los Angeles left one motorist critically injured and a pedestrian dead.

A car traveling southbound on Federal collided with another auto going eastbound on Santa Monica, which caused the southbound car to spin out of control, striking a pedestrian. The car then continued on its crash course and hit another car at a gas station that was being refueled.

Seven emergency vehicles were called out to the scene to attend to the injured and close down the intersection. Traffic on surrounding streets was tied up until well in to the late afternoon.

The westbound lanes finally reopened on 10 Freeway in South Los Angeles after a multi-car accident killed one woman. Police are still unsure as to what caused the 4:45 AM accident that injured three other people near Crenshaw Boulevard.  A spokesman from the Los Angeles Fire Department stated that one person received serious injuries while the other two only had minor injuries.

Tragedy struck the Millwood Township today when a 12-year-old girl lost her life in a car accident last week. The single car accident occurred on County Road 35 when Frank Luna, 34, lost control of his pickup truck on the icy road. The little girl was ejected from the truck before it wound up in a ditch.

While she was treated at the scene for her injuries, she later died at Melrose Hospital. Officers report that she was not wearing her seat belt while riding in the pickup truck.

A car accident early on November 5 has left a woman in a coma in Cupertino. A young man in Los Angeles may be facing charges of involuntary manslaughter when he ran a red light this week. He was joined by two other boys in a black BMW who ran a red light, hit a pedestrian, and then cause a bus accident injuring 19 more people when the bus overturned in Boyle Heights.

A 15-year-old man was seriously injured in an accident involving a trailer during a Halloween-themed event, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.  The teenager was accidentally run over by the trailer that was being towed by a pick-up truck at William S. Hart Park in Old Town Newhall.

The pedestrian accident occurred in the Heritage Haunt Hayride of Nightmares, the longest and largest hayride in Los Angeles County.  Witnesses and reports indicate that the teenager, while playing a character for the hayride, was attempting to entertain attendees in the trailer when he slipped, fell, and was subsequently run over.

In Glendale, CA, an 83-year-old man survived a unique and terrible car accident after his SUV sped through his upper level condominium parking garage, fell two stories and collided with the road.

According the Sheriff's Department in Los Angeles, a man by the name of Steven Bauer (not the actor from Scarface) was involved in an accident with a pedestrian while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway this past Friday evening.

Police say that Bauer was heading home when he struck a Malibu resident by the name of Brent Rosenberg at approximately 6:00 PM.

In Foxborough, Massachusetts, new sources confirmed that quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots was scared out of his mind after he was involved in a serious two vehicle car accident last week.

In Van Nuys, sources are saying that a Los Angeles motorcycle officer suffered injuries this week after his bike was struck by a car. 

Police say the car accident occurred on the 6100 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard, just north of the Orange Line Busway at approximately 1:00 PM.  LAPD Officer Mary Brady, the assistant watch commander of the Valley Traffic Division said, "The officer was assigned to Valley Traffic and has been a motorcycle officer for 25 to 27 years."

She also said, "Initially we thought it was a hit and run but the driver remained at the scene and is being interviewed by our investigators."  Brady added that an erroneous report was made about a bus being involved in the collision.

According to Brady, the officer was hit from behind and knocked off of his motorcycle.  She said that the officer had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, but his injuries were not severe.

In Corralitos, a man as seriously hurt after his Toyota Corolla veered into oncoming traffic on Freedom Boulevard.  The 31 year old man's car was hit by a Dodge pickup that was towing an empty horse trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Last week Thursday in South Pasadena, it is reported that a vehicle hit a curb, went airborne and then landed on the roof of a residence located on Orange Grove Avenue.  The car accident occurred following a high-speed police chase.

Reports indicate that the Los Angeles Police Department chased the car from Panorama City to Pasadena as they believed the car was carrying a murder suspect.  During the chase, the car hit a curb and flew into the air.  Then, it landed on the roof of a nearby home at around midnight.

The driver of the vehicle, who was in fact a felon with an arrest warrant, sustained a spinal cord injury.  He was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital for treatment.

In South Los Angeles, it is reported that police are looking into a hit and run accident that occurred on Thursday.  Police say that the car accident resulted in the tragic death of an 11 year old boy by the name of Natanael Garcia.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Garcia was hit at approximately 2:30 PM at Hoover and 76^th Streets, which are part of the Vermont Knolls neighborhood.

On Thursday evening, police described the suspect's vehicle as being a black or dark blue sports utility vehicle (SUV).  The say the vehicle had tan trim and stock wheels and are asking for the public's help in locating the driver.

According to the Placer County District Attorney's Office, a man from the Antelope Valley who pled guilty to hitting and killing a pedestrian with his vehicle will be sentenced in August.

The District Attorney's office says that the man, Jeremy Sarguis, is expected to receive sentencing on August 10.  In May, Sarguis pled guilty to one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death as well as two counts of conspiracy.

During the morning hours of February 4^th, Sarguis hit a 47 year old woman by the name of Vickie Janell Scott on Interstate 80.  Instead of stopping, he fled the scene of the car accident and conspired with his two passengers to repair and clean his car.

Now, Sarguis faces five years in state prison for his offense.
